Success! Exeter Sustainability Award for Best Micro Business

Updated: 2 days ago

We’re honoured to share the news that The Bioasis has been awarded Best Micro Business in the Exeter Sustainability Awards, 2025.

For us, this recognition isn’t just a moment of celebration, it’s a reflection of the values we live and work by: care for the land, connection to nature and the belief that sustainability can be a shared journey that benefits both people and place.

The Bioasis wins the Exeter Sustainability Award micro business category.

We’re incredibly grateful to Princesshay Exeter and the Exeter Sustainability Awards for spotlighting the work of small organisations making a difference. And we want to give a heartfelt thanks to our brilliant team, for their energy, ideas and commitment.

Of course, this wouldn’t be possible without our partners, our team of committed wild guides and the forward-thinking landowners who share our vision and give us the space and trust to create something truly meaningful on the land.

But for us, this is just the beginning.

Looking ahead to 2025, our commitment to sustainability is growing in every direction:

  • Expanding our solar capacity to generate more renewable energy onsite

  • Reducing transport mileage and streamlining our operations

  • Planting more native trees and hedgerows

  • Launching a new Himalayan balsam removal programme to support biodiversity

  • Creating compost heaps at each camp to close the loop on food and organic waste

  • Re-evaluating key parts of our supply chain to ensure we’re sourcing responsibly

  • Writing and publishing our formal Sustainability Policy

  • Growing our Bioscientific Programme, offering deeper engagement in ecology and environmental science

  • Launching a new programme for corporate groups and volunteers to contribute to meaningful environmental work

At its core, the very model of The Bioasis is designed to be sustainable — one that benefits our participants through education and personal development, the economy through being for-profit company, the environment through low-carbon operations and conservation work and local stakeholders, including change of land-use to create more positive ways of generating money from the land.

As our community grows, so too does our positive impact on the land. We actively improve the health of the ecosystems where we operate — from enhancing soil and water quality to restoring wild spaces.

It has been a joy to watch these places recover and thrive since we arrived, and we know that none of it happens alone.

Thank you to everyone who’s joined us on the journey so far.

We’re just getting started.
